Marks used by Matthew Boulton

Postby goffer » Tue Aug 17, 2010 2:41 am

My wife has recently inherited a pair of candelabra we are interested in investigating. Each bit of the candelabra is marked with the two suns mark but there are no other silver marks on the piece - no hallmarks at all. They are said by the family to have been bought from a house sale at the Marquis of Angelsey's house Plas Newydd - and they do have a crest on them I would also be interested in how to trace.Could anyone give me any information on whether the marks are consistent with Matthew Boulton and any information about date from the style?

The two stars (not suns) look like old Sheffield plate marks of Matthew Boulton & Co, Sheffield c1784 (according to my reference book anyway).
