Hello
There exists a very popular saying: »A picture say’s more then thousand words« In this case I’ve to have maybe serious doubts on my past visual experiences?
Because my visual experiences let me interpret that this is a Ceramic pot with wooden handle?! Reason for my - maybe (?) wrong - interpretation is that my practice tells me, to see here an item made in ceramic, with in the humid material immersed maker’s mark.
I suggest that maker’s mark (of this ceramic item?) has to be read as maybe: JE&S Ltd.
The inscription on one of the side panel I read as follow: Fourth Branch of the Family Society of New Haven.
Maybe it’s New Haven/CT? The religious background of immigrants in East Coast States, e.g. in CT, was guideline to “see” then the need of others also as her own — they donated informal assistances. If necessary, also they founded and funded Social oriented Society’s as this one. Members of my American family were active to send after WW II uncountable CARE packages to Western Europe, especially to Germany — not only to Family.
Also if this item is made from ceramic — it’s an important document of local practised humanity!
Kind regards silverport
