help for identification

Hello all, Some firends have asked me to check on this forum if someone could help them. They have a whole coffee and tea set which I believe is american silverplate. On their behalf I would be very grateful if someone could help.

The hallmark is a square. from left to right there is letter "E", then a flower which I believe can be a rose, then letter "C" with a star on top.

Hi Myriam,
I don't think it is American, it far more resembles the maker's marks seen on French silverplate. If anyone concurs, I'll move it on over to the relevant category.
