Marks on saucespoon

Postby kasper3 » Sun Jan 03, 2010 12:49 pm

This time I am curious about marks on a saucespoon which my sister inherited from our grandmother. We are from Iceland, but where as silverflatware which came from her was danish/american, and some bowls from sweden, I can´t be sure about the origin of this spoon. The mark is a runic-like B following with the number 90. Does anyone know what these marks stand for?

Plated Sauce ladle, made by Koch & Bergfeld, Bremen, Ger

Hello,

Sauce ladle is pattern 690, be Plated; made by Koch & Bergfeld, Bremen, Germany. This pattern was introduced on the market in 1931. Whole range of cutlery (knives, forks, spoons …) in this pattern 690 was still available and in production end of 20th century.

90 = 90 g silver on 12 table spoons and 12 table fork; for a sauce ladle similar plated is used 3 to 4 gram silver. Sometimes on “server” marked separately to 90, you could find a number, e.g. 3 or 4, as an indication. On plated teaspoon e.g. 12 = signification is: 12 g silver is used for 12 teaspoon.

In 1931 pattern was introduced = in plated is: 690; in silver alloy is: 66900. Sauce ladle have the part number 22.

Shown maker’s mark for K&B plated products (hollowware and flatware) was introduced in 1896. Now — from 1990 on — is a full name maker’s mark in use.

Koch & Bergfeld, Bremen and the other Bremen factory for silver hollowware and flatware had from antique Bremen silversmith guild on a strong commercial relation to all of Nordic country, including of course Iceland to. So you could find there many articles in silver, made in Bremen.

Kind regards silverport

Hello

An additional remark:

If stem’s finial was bending slightly backwards, then its pattern number was 557. Isn’t here the case.

Kind regards silverport
