Unknown marks and numbers on a spoon, who can help

Postby R ingo » Fri Oct 09, 2009 11:22 am

Hello,
I have a very heavy silverspoon with unknown marks. I have no idea where the spoon was made. The first mark is a 12 or 72 with a symbol (may be a lions head) between both ciphers.
The Makers- or Company mark seems to be "LO?????L & Co" The last mark is 61.
Can someone tell me, what these numbers means and where the spoon was made?

Kind regards,
Ringo

Hello

In «Adress- und Handbuch fuer das Deutsche Goldschmiede-Gewerbe» 1903, p. 41 «Alfenide-Fabriken», Nr. 1082:

Löwenthal, Herm., München, Theatinerstr. 41. Versilberte Tafelgeräte.

Signification is, that "&Cº", and yours spoon is made later then 1903.

Kind regards silverport
