Hello
Because I haven't any British background except 15 hours English lessons now 60 years ago - I guess:
For big social «get together», e.g. in christian congregatians, everybody was requested to donate something, e.g. cake or help out with several additional objects, e.g. tabel clothes, milk jugs, sugar bowls ...
Also if they are «Christians» they mark their possesions, e.g. «a??wood» (scratched on top). Top left and middle left I couldn't identify. And in the center, «14»? Maybe an indication for volume? - in that case: maybe a scratch made by a little shop owner some where?
Things tell storys if we look, research and listen. That's collectors honey.
Yours questions resist - «British» or «American» ones on board to help?
Kind regards silverport
