Maybe 1650's spoon or a repro? Wedding Spoon

Postby silversearcherz » Fri Feb 13, 2009 2:39 pm

I found that the angel mark on this dates back to 1650 from info on a website but when did they stop making such a mark? This also has a Crown with letters in it and what appears to be a large P and then either a small p or part of letter A or r and the rest of lettering is worn off or never marked good enough to see.The spoon measures 7 inches long and feels heavy like lead but looks to have silver content in it.What would this be made of and could it be from the 1600's or is a newer piece? It has a man and woman standing beside each other with staffs in hands. From the clothing they have on I thought maybe from Austria or Germany. Any ideas?

Hello, hard to tell from a pic, but this looks like cast pewter, not silver. Best wishes, Bahner
