Just picked this spoon up at a yard sale. I bought it because of its unique shape. Overall, the spoon is about 7-5/8" long. The handle is hollow and has a monogrammed crest on the back. It looks to be sterling though there are no marks on the handle. The bowl is slotted in a leaf motif. One side of the bowl is slightly lipped, like it was some type of scoop.
The lone mark is on the top of the bowl. The mark is PV in a box. The background of the box is dimpled. The bowl is definitely silverplate as seen in the closeup picture of the mark. The only PV that I have been able to find is Paul van Vianen from the early 17th century but I do not believe this is quite that old. I would appreciate any suggestions on who the maker is and what this spoon was used for.
