Good Morning --

I hope that someone will recognize this scallop shaped bowl and be able to discern what the marks are saying -- I'm sorry but I just cannot make them out -- other than the "Made in Sheffield England" of course. It measures 10 inches by 9 inches and has four fish feet. I do not know if it is sterling or plate. Thank you in advance for your help.

Best regards, Diane

Hello. I have not been able to find your marks. They are a bit hard to read. However, the fact that the piece says "Made in Sheiffield England" probably dates it to after 1920-30. Also, it is most likely silverplate as the hallmarks even though hard to read do not seem to be English sterling marks. Hope this helps at least a bit.

Thank you very much. I am sure you are correct that the bowl is plated. The truly impossible to read marks are fitting a pattern as this is the second item I tried to learn more about this week only to find that when the marks are thick and unreadable like this the item is plate! Best, D.
