Hello.

That silverplate mark was used by James Ryals & Company Ltd., Sheffield, England.
Don't know much about them. I'm guessing second half of the 20th century.

Your second picture has a British RD number, check here to date it:

Hi,

I agree with Pat regarding the dating of this piece.
The James Ryals company is a very old established firm that probably traces back its origins to Joshua Ryals who was listed as a 'Table knife cutler', Brinsworth's Orchard, Sheffield, in 'Sketchley's Sheffield Directory' of 1774.
James Ryals, Solly Street, Sheffield, is listed as 'Table knife etc. manufacturers', in the 'Goldsmiths', Jewellers', Silversmiths', Watchmakers', Opticians', and Cutlers' Directory' of 1863. It appears sometime around 1875 he expanded his operations and moved to the 'Era Works', Sheffield and is entered in 'White's Hardware Trade Marks' of 1892, his Trade Mark is listed as a Heart above a Diamond.
In 1919 he is listed as James Ryals & Bros. in Register of the Trade Marks of the Cutlers Co. of Sheffield'.

Trev.
