Large Serving Spoon with Clear Marks, Identification Needed

Postby parnassus » Sun Oct 09, 2005 2:35 am

This spoon is clearly hallmarked on the back with what appears to be NM, a ship, and a stylized 90 (90% silver?). The handle is quite detailed, with the designs on both the top and the bottom. The spoon is about 10-1/2" long. Any information would be most welcome. Thanks to all!

Can't help with the maker's mark, but your "90" looks more like a "20" to me; regardless, the piece would be silverplate with the number indicating the thickness of the plating. Most Norwegian silverplate I see is either 40 or 60 gram, the higher the number - the heavier the plating.
