Newbie wanting help

Postby spoonone » Sun Apr 06, 2008 7:08 am

Hi, This my first post, I need help in verifying these hallmarks, I have looked in Jackson's but I could only identify the Sheffield assay mark. Any help would be appreciated in identifying the other marks.

Helo and welcome.

That is a British silverplate mark from the 19th century.
Not sure who used it. Are the letters in the middle mark pri over me?
What are the letters in the mark on the far right?

Pat.

Begiining in 1839 J. Prime of Birmingham England used the marks in my first picture below. He was a close plater.

Around 1844 they began producing electroplated wares and the name of the firm changed to Thomas Prime & Son.

This is only my opinion, but I believe your mark was sort of a transitional mark when they changed over to electroplating.
