Unknown Lionshed spoon

Postby leslieglasser » Tue Mar 11, 2008 2:51 pm

I've been trying to post this and am not sure why it's not appearing, so feel free to enlighten this newbie. I would like info about the hallmark for this spoon:

I believe the head of a lion (or an eagle) is framed by a very gothic letter L or C and on the right of the lion a B and then there's a recessed rectangle with the letters GO or 60. The spoon is definetely sterling.

Since this was identified as plate I did a deep and dirty acid test and this is at least 925 silver. But if anyone has information I'd love to hear it.

Acid tests are silly, what is the density of this item?

Hi,
Given the photo of the mark supplied, it is very unlikely that you'll get a valid identification. From what is discernable in the photo, it is most likely a piece of German or French silverplate.
Regards, Tom

Thank you. I can't do a density test. So I'll just have to remain perplexed, though I'll take it down to the pawnshop and see if they can test it.
