Silver Pitcher EPNS RSPC

Postby anteekgeek » Wed Sep 21, 2005 5:47 pm

I bought this at an estate sale and was wondering the origin and maker. I have looked over the site thoroughly. There are what looks to be forged symbols and letters on the bottom on the pitcher and the bottom of the stand. The letters RSPC and EPNS appear to be grouped together. There is also a number 4760. The Makers symbol is a crest with a J, and crown, and then a crest with a G.

I picked up a small covered platter or dish with the same mark. i have been looking everywhere for it and cannot find it. Did you ever get an answer?

Your mark sounds similar to a silverplate mark used by Rylands Electroplating Company, Sheffield, England. They used this mark from 1876 to 1910. Problem is what's in your shield sounds different than the mark I'm refering to. Maybe yours is a newer version, I'm not sure.

Does the RSPC stand for the Royal Sheffield whatever it was? I figured the J and G inside the shields or crests was the manufacturer. Maybe they are date marks. My digital camera isn't good enough to pick up the stamp, but it looks just like the other person who posted about it.
