Identify mark on Silver Bowl from Spain

Postby Metalhead08 » Mon Feb 25, 2008 9:01 pm

Haven't been able to find anything on this mark on a bowl. Anyone recognize it? At the top, it appears to be a crown or 3 vertical bars. In the middle, SPAIN and below that appears to be a shield with W A in a cursive script. The bowl itself is rather lightweight, possibly silver plate? It is 12" across at the widest point, and about 3 1/2" deep. It seems to be fairly new - not too much 'patina'.

The letters WA stand for William Adams, Sheffield, England.
Don't know if there is any connection to the William Adams of Birmingham that we have listed in the silverplate marks section.
Believe they were importers and distributors.
Often see your mark with Italy instead of Spain.

Thanks Pat. Not knowing about the business, I'm wondering why it would say Spain when the mark is British. Origin of silver perhaps. Thanks again for your help and your time.
