Maker's Mark on Silver/Copper Vase

Postby deejay » Sun Jan 06, 2008 5:03 pm

I'm assuming this vase is silver/copper.
Does anyone know this maker's mark, or have an idea how old the piece might be?

Thanks!

The cross look like Zutphen in the Netherlands 1700
"Lion" looks like Sheffield
Year letter look like Sheffield late 1700 hundreds. Without any match.

When marks are mixed like that, it usualy is intended. I soppose that mean pseudomarks - perhaps I am wrong and somebody comes with another answer.

Hello all-

Mine is a question rather than an answer. This is a beautiful piece of work, but my question is; how do they silver plate the item, and yet have that lovely copper show through?

byron the areas you don't want to plate - in this case the copper leaves - would be covered with a substance that prevents silver from being deposited on it.
