Any Info on STG. SILVER mark on bow brooch

I'm new, please be gentle :0)

I am trying to find out any information regarding this brooch, it's not all that exciting - Any help with this brooch would be greatly appreciated.

From the use of this wonderful site, possibly Australian ?

Sterling abbreviated to STG ? or is STG a makers mark?
Please excuse my ignorance.. Is sterling silver normally a 925 content or is it at a lower content?
Is there anyway to date these simple marks? or to find out who made it?

Yes, STG is the abbreviation of STERLING and indeed could be made in Australia, New Zealand or South African. Sterling is a grade of silver; minimum 925/1000 fineness or 92/5% pure silver. However STG silver or the word sterling is no hallmark, no guarantee the silver is of 925/1000 fineness.
