Iranian hallmark?

Postby Madhatterrus » Sat Feb 05, 2011 7:42 pm

Hi all,

I wonder if anyone can help with the hallmark I've seen on several pieces. Almost all of them were bracelets with miniature paintings in Persian style. The mark looks like Arabic lettering. Could it be 19th century Iranian? Or Indian?

Thanks for any ideas.

Hello Maddhatterus,

This is an Isfahani silver and enamelled piece, most probably mid-20th century. Many items were decorated in this manner at that time. There is no hallmark nut Iranian silver is known to be .840. It is written, as best as I can see, 3mal Muhyee, or in English the work of Muhyee, the name of the maker. This is a fine bracelet.
