Please help ID hallmarks on Russian? 925 bracelet niello

Postby mmary » Mon Jun 28, 2010 11:00 am

One of the marks on this bracelet appears to be a backwards N which I believe is in the cyrllic alphabet. I have searched this website, Tardy's silver book and Paulson's Russian silver hallmarks and didn't see it. Most items I have found from Russia were not 925 silver so maybe I am completely wrong about the country of origin.
The surface is deeply chased with niello decorating the smooth surfaces.
Any help would certainly be appreciated.
Thanks!

It seems to be Latvian - after 1919

Hello

It seems to be that the knot of marks lies in Latvia.

Sorry, I havent precise and sounded knowledge of these marks - but I think in short you would get attention from our contributors with sounded knowledge of North East European production and Assay marks.

Kind regards silverport

Thanks for the reply. I checked all the sources I had available for Latvia and the lady's head faces to the left or up in those marks - the one I pictured faces right.
Also, Lativa is listed as making 875 or 916 silver.
My first impression when I bought this was that the lower mark with the profile (I thought it was a man) could be an import mark.

I didn't mean to be disrespectful in my last post so I hope you didn't take it that way. You obviously know much more about silver than I do and I truly appreciate your reply.

Please have patience - its summer time

Hello

Yes, as I know, it’s an Import mark - but here a man in profile?

Please have patience - its summer time; and all who assist voluntarily should have also the freedom of their own time planning.

Here you could in between search with the keyword e.g. Latvia: search.php

Thank you in advance for your patience!

Kind regards silverport

I received this information from another source:
Your modern 925 Russian mark was found in World Hallmarks - Volume 1 - Europe - Whetstone Nikleewic Matula - book published 2010 so also covers very recent marks
Thanks for your assistance with this item.
