Russian hallmark?

Postby PT911 » Sun Aug 23, 2009 9:11 pm

I found this sailing ship brooch at a thrift store attached to paper tag printed in Russian. It translates to:
LPO Russian Gems
Brooch 39807
Article MP-4717
Price 1.20
Silver 0.072g
OST25.1289-87
PPO No. 1-5, z. 5651
So, I am assuming it is Russian and silver but after looking at every single mark on this website, I do not find anything similar. Help! Please!
There are numbers and letters on the back of the brooch and symbols on the keys. I sincerely thank you in advance!

«Russian» maybe indeed or produced in China? - never silve

Postby silverport » Mon Aug 24, 2009 4:53 pm

Hello

First of all: Almost punches aren’t «Hallmark» but e.g. maker’s mark, retailers mark, price indication (in yours case: 1p20k = 1 rouble 20 kopecks) and there are many more marks.

You’ve presented — also to you self already — a leaflet’s transcription. Normally that should guide and answer already al questions you maybe have had.

«Hallmark» is a kind of “Holy sign” that you’ve to learn and to understand first of all in yours noviciate. All of us started as novice. You don’t like to look on details, to read at lot — also in some thousand «925-1000» forum pages, to think and rethink? Otherwise you would punish yourself — that’s maybe just now yours experience by yours spontaneous buy?

With “open eyes and mind” is visible that object is “Russian”; maybe produced in China? But it is plated only and not «silver». On leaflet is indicated: 0.072 gram silver — weight of a little stamp only. Why should it be «silver»?

If you appreciated this object its fine indeed. If you like to earn hyper return? Then you have to learn, to learn and to learn.

Kind regards silverport

Thank you for your time...I thought it was a lovely little trinket for one American dollar. The keys are so pretty and the sailing ship really caught my eye. I was hoping that perhaps the letters, numbers and symbols might give some clue as to the origin or the date. Thank you again and have many happy days!
