'Australia' Pendant / Help identify Mark - A.B & SONS LT

Postby laughinglizard » Tue Nov 06, 2007 6:12 pm

Hello again from Australia,
I would be grateful for any help identifying the mark on this small silver pendant made in the shape of the Australian continent.
It measures approx 1 inch x 1 inch.
It is stamped :- STG SILVER. A.B. & SONS LTD. REGD 4.2.03
(We aim to buy a piece of Silver for our 3 year old grand-daughter each year for her birthday, gradually building up the collection, which may possibly fuel an interest for her in the future).
Pat recently identified a silver Altar Vessel for us as being Australian, so wonder if he might also solve this one !
Look forward to hearing from you, Kind regards, Shirley

Hi Shirley.
That's a great idea about silver gifts for your grand-daughter.
Those are gifts that she will always treasure.

Sorry to say, I checked my books, but could not find anything on the A.B. & Sons mark.

Best wishes,
Pat.

Thanks so much for your reply Pat,
If you can't find it, things don't look hopeful :(
There's not much available on the Internet relating to makers of AUSTRALIAN silver... but I'll keep looking.
Kind regards,
Shirley

Hi Shirley

It might be worth writing to the Silver Society of Australia with your query - they are quite helpful and have a number of authors published on Australian silver among their members

Regards

Waylander

Hello Waylander. Great idea, thanks.

Shirley, I just emailed your pictures to the Silver Society of Australia.
Enhanced the marks picture a bit.
I provided a link to this post, but if they email me back I'll post the information here right away.

Admin. (Tom), I also asked if they would like to contribute pictures of Australian marks.

Pat.

MANY THANKS to you all for the advice and information, I will do as you suggest. I now look forward to any developments which might come from all your efforts.
It would be just GREAT to have some Australian marks listed on your website, and I do hope the Silver Society of Australia feel the same.
Best wishes,
Shirley

Hi Shirley, I can't help with the maker but the map of Australia (State boundaries) as depicted on your pendant was valid from 6th July 1863 to 1st Jan 1911
Don't know if that's a help or hindrance.......momma
