Hi and welcome to the forum.

It looks like you are trying to attach pictures directly from your own computer. You should upload your pictures to a photo hosting site and use the links provided to post embedded pictures.

The following should help you:

How to Add Images

Posting Requirements

https://postimages.org is recommended (click 'Share', then copy and paste the 'Hotlink for forums' code to embed your images). Do not use Photobucket or Dropbox.

Please embed your images rather than posting links and remember to use the 'Preview' button before submitting your post. If your images don't show up there we won't be able to see them either.

For a quick summary see:

Hi,

Embedded images are when they can be seen without clicking on a link. Very few members will click on unknown links.

https://postimages.org (choose 'Share', then copy the 'Hotlink for forums' code) is recommended.

Thanks for persisting and getting your images embedded.

GB is definitely not George Bayly as this is an Italian mark. The six-sided figure with letters and numbers indicates the province and maker. In this case 487 FI is TU of Firenze (Florence). See viewtopic.php?f=38&t=27003&p=175553#p175553. GB and the face may be related to the retailer. The style of the registration mark indicates that it is from before 1971.

Hi Phil,

Persistance is the essence of life! I'm left a bit baffled by yout input, as I found the ankh, coal black as it hadn't been polished in many years, in one of many of my grandmother's (presumably) unopened boxes from the fifties? Grandma Hannah Cronin Twomey, an immigrant of Ireland, passed in 1955...........How did an ankh made in the late sixties find it's way in the box? Another mystery.............

What's the significance of the 800?

Many many thanks,
Michael

800 is the silver standard: 800 parts of silver per 1000. Sterling is 925/1000.

You have misunderstood, this style of marking was in use from 1944 to around 1971.
