Please help me identify this brooch

Post by Zygimjani »

Hello!

So I got this silver brooch but I can't identify anything... the first part of the hallmark looks like an animal on some kind of à ring I guess? The second one looks like à face on an animal... Maybe cat or a lion. The forth is two lettres (ow, or om or who knows...)....

I lost any hope to find anything, please help me.

Hi,

Welcome to the Forum.

Your brooch appears to have been assayed at Dublin. Clearer images of the marks may provide more detail.

Hi,
What about Edinburgh 1975-1998 ?

The marks were upside down.
Maker`s mark, lion rampant, three towers, date letter.

Better images are needed, though.

It is Dublin and it is upside down. Now I clearly see Dublin and letter P

Pay attention to the tail in the mark (red arrow).
Compare with Edinburg marks.
Dublin marks are rectangles with cut corners.

It is most definitely Edinburgh and the date letter appears to be the Q of 1990. The sponsor's mark is MG which is the mark of Ortak Silvercraft of Kirkwall, Orkney, the initials being those of Malcolm Gray.
