Danish or Norwegian amethyst ring. Maker m&s?

Hi. I have an amethyst ring that I thought was costume, but have seen that it is marked 826 "m&s". My initial research points me to possibly Denmark or Norway but the makers mark is confusing me. Does anybody know how I can date or identify the maker or history? There are no other marks other than a tiny "bullseye" which could be an artefact of something else.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry to disappoint but to me it looks like the mark of Marks and Spencer - a British department store. I could be wrong...
