Identify the year please

Postby muttyluv » Sun Jul 02, 2006 7:44 am

I have a Domas fob watch that I have inherited from my grandfather.
I would if possible like to know the year it was made.

Links to images above, any help and or further information on the watch would be very much appreciated

I can't make it out very well, but it looks like the London import mark and the 1918 date letter.

Hello Miles

As I am totally green at this I presume the date mark is the "U" in the shield, is the import mark the one that is almost scratched away? as that was the only mark that I was unable to decipher.

Can anyone tell me where the watch has come from?

Watches is an area where I'm pretty green myself.
The "U" is actually the upside down sign of the constellation Leo and means that the piece was imported into London from 1906-1950. The letter which I think is a C is the date letter. The 925 mark means it is sterling silver, and the GD is the maker's mark.

I'm not sure where it was made; possibly Switzerland or Belgium.

There was a watch manufacturer named Damas. They were founded in 1903 in Tramelan, Switzerland.

Thank you all for your replies.

The information that has been given leads me to believe that the watch may even have been my great grandfathers, passed down to my grandfather.

Thank you all again, you have been most helpful
