Help with a bangle, please

Postby missfortescue » Tue Jan 14, 2014 11:38 pm

Hello everyone,

I would like some help please regarding a mark on this bangle?

At first I thought it was just a dent but once I started to take photographs, the "dent" is actually a Maker's Mark!

Trouble is, it is very small, I have however, attached some photographs.

Many thanks in advance for all your help.

Hi,

Welcome to the Forum.

That is a piece made by the Portuguese firm Ferreira Marques & Irmão, SA., who use the brand name Topázio.

Your mark image is upside down:

Hi Trev

Thank you so much! Wow, that's amazing.

I just had a look at their website, it seems that they do not make jewellery anymore.

Any idea on how old this piece is?

Thanks again.

Hi,

No, I didn't know they made jewellery, I guess it was something that didn't work out for them.

Sorry, not a clue on the age. Hopefully someone else has some thoughts.

Hi ~ have handled a good number of Topazio jewelry items over the years, most were nice quality filigree of varying vintage, but also a few modern pieces similar to this one. Their current online accessories catalog shows your bracelet on page 53.

Hello again :)

Thank you so much for letting me know about their catalogue - it says "re-edition", does that mean it is an old design that they have remade?

How can I tell if the one I have is the original edition? Do they still sign their pieces the way it is signed on my bangle?

I am so sorry to bug you with more questions, I have searched how to find if it is an old one, but I can't seem to find any more information.

Thank you again in advance.

Would probably be best to contact the company regarding the age of the design and when they started use of that trademark. Personally, can't recall seeing it on any pieces that had much age, and they also had the additional stamped 'TOPAZIO' - don't believe I've ever seen it on any of their typical vintage filigree jewelry.
