help:) midcentury Norwegian hallmark

Postby traymar » Mon Aug 26, 2013 8:48 pm

Hi there!

I recently inherited a silver bangle from my mother. She claims to have gotten it in the 60s from a Georg Jensen store but the hallmark is clearly from Norway. It seems there is an "RH" stamp as well and the flag of Norway. Not sure what the other marks are.

Please forgive the tarnish! Thank you!!

Hi welcome to the forum.

The ‘Norwegian flag’ and other little mark, I believe is the mark of : Plus workshop or the Applied Arts Center & school of Fredrikstad Norway. Known for its modernist designs often hammered. RH could be the initials of the designer. The mark has been punched a second time hence misalignment.

See for another well known silver smith, who worked for Plus workshop and makers'mark example:

And a little more information about Plus:

You have been forgiven the tarnish but please give it a little LTC

Thank you so much Oel !! Once you narrowed down the studio I was able to research more. Looks like the work of Ragnar Hansen who worked at PLUS with Erling Christoffersen and Anna Greta Eker.

He later moved to Australia from Norway and continued his pursuit of modernist art, for example:

Thanks again!!
