Norweigan Silver Solje Pin, Help with Mark ID please?

Postby kendawendr » Sat Jul 07, 2012 11:57 am

Greetings everyone.

My mother in law brought this beautiful pin to me when she was visiting last week. She is aware of a bit of the history, that it was a gift received by a great grandfather in the family, whom had been a goldsmith in Norway. She has asked me to see if I can find out the creator of this pin, but in my searches I have been unable to match the makers mark ME (?) successfully. I am also a bit puzzled, because it does not state "830S" as I have seen others do, but only "830". It appears to be tarnished silver with bronze spoons, and is approximately 1.5" wide. Please see below pictures, thank you for any assistance you may provide.

As you say the pin is marked 830. Then it is made after 1892. It is not 830S and that was the law.
Then, as I think, it is not a silversmith belonging to a guild, but a silversmith working in a valley beside the farmerwork. And it was quite a lot of them.
It could be: Morten L. Espesæth in Nesbyen, Hallingdal, working from 1911.
This is all I can tell you.
Best regards Tosten
