Hey mates, I found this old-looking brooch near an old ghost town/river landing along the Grand River in Michigan. Apparently the town was established around 1850. I was metal detecting and I found it about 4"-6" underground. I took it too one jeweler so far and she dated it to the 19th century. She also said that it was probably European because of the 900 silver marking. Basically, I'm just wondering if anyone can narrow down the date and country of origin even further. The brooch has what appears to be two 900 markings but one is sort of ambiguous because it looks worn down along the bottom. There are no other marking that I'm aware of. Thanks for taking a look and I appreciate any sort of response.

...itaglio 900 mark...? My guess is that it is from Mexico...not Europe...

It's very uncommon for Mex pieces to be less than 925 and with no other marks makes it even less likely to be from there. I've seen Middle Eastern/East Asian pieces with a similar mark but it looks too well done for pieces from there.

...I get it V V...and know this, but I took a guess on this based upon this http://www.925-1000.com/mexican_marks.html and its look, which while not altogether a Mexico made looking piece, but more so, than one from Europe...

I'm nearly sure that it is a German or Austrian brooch.
I've got some of these brooches and on every german flea market you can find similar examples.
Probably it is handmade by an unknown artist.
