Need help dating Newcastle item and ID maker

Post by muraille »

I am confused about these hallmarks. I don't think there is any doubt that it is Newcastle, but I am not sure about the date as the "k" doesn't seem to be a capital letter and the small "k" for 1873 is not supposed to be in a shield. Also, I can't find a CH maker for Newcastle. Of course, there is Charles Horner for Chester, but I don't think he ever had a Newcastle origin for his jewelry. Or is it a badly stamped Chester? Please help as this is a very pretty bracelet! Many thanks.

Hi,

Your images are too small to be seen, but for sure, this piece is not Newcastle.

Hi Muraille,

Your bracelet was assayed at Chester in 1960. Although the maker's mark is somewhat worn, it would appear to be that of Charles Horner Ltd.
