Postby givemebonbon » Fri Mar 19, 2010 8:34 pm

I recentely purchased a silver pocket watch, according to the seller, he said its 1874, but I cannot match the letter mark "Z" with any date on the british/birmingham date mark, would anyone help please. and I also can not found out the maker's mark of "W.E", many thanks!

Hi
The mark shown would be Birmingham 1874. The punch outline used at Birmingham in the latter part of 19 century was not always the one published, although the date letter will be. Refer date letter page at http://www.925-1000.com/dlBirmingham.html

Question on similar mark on watchcase was asked in the European Jewellery section this site on 14/9/09. Patrick indicated that the W.E could be William Ehrhardt

I notice that my reference to the date page at Birmingham assay office site has been changed to 925-1000 site. The Birmingham site was given specifically because of the reference to date punch outline and watch cases
