Hi-

the town mark looks like that of Tbilissi (Tiflis) used in the years 1842-1867, 84 is the silver content (875/1000) and AI is the (unknown) maker. The assayer is missing! A little dubious - each cufflink should have the same punches and the marks look a little strange! Fine enamel work was not the main capability of this region....I am not sure if they are original or "upgraded".

I don't think it's Russian for the same reasons as Postnikov already stated. No assayer, very strange 84 mark, latin letters in Tblisi??? etc. The Tblisi rider by the way rides the other way. However, it might be Polish, but...

Hi,

I agree with you NAS, before Postnikov had answered I assumed that it was the town mark of Moscow. I can see the slaughtered dragon and Saint George. But is there an explanation for the overstamping?

Hmmmm.. there are too many question marks here.

1 Why is the city mark over stamped?
2 This kind of marking was used between 1861 and1879 but the city mark that resembles, note resembles only, Moscow’s mark was used later ->1898 and is rather rare. What would be the year?
3. There is no assayer’s mark. According to the law every item presented on the marked must carry all marks.
4. There is neither a known nor an unknown master with the initials A.I
5. Number 10 in the link is rather dubious, especially the town mark.
6. The mark(s)ing in general looks strange.
