New to Antiques and Silver. Any info appriciated.

Postby Revel » Sun Jun 21, 2009 2:11 pm

Hi all

I am new to the forum and hopefully will be a regular as I have been bitten by the collecting bug.

I have been to an Antiques fair today and have come back with a Lizard brooch as the wife took a shine to it. The stall owner wasnt around just his assistant/wife who didnt seem to know much about it, so I took a gamble and bought it for £5. I just need a little information to fill the vast gaps in my knowledge.
What do I know? Well, its is stamped with two hallmarks. First looks like A935 then the second looks like the letter T in a square. I am unable to get a clear shot of the hallmark, but hopefully it may ring a few bells with someone.

It is clear you are using a decent camera, activate the macro function and give us a decent mark image.

Update.

I have just had a really good look at the hallmark which is worn (forgot to mention) and it is actually A835 in a lozenge shape. Please forgive the crude images I have done. The second is like the other hallmark.

Perhaps Belgium?? What about the T?
Thanks

For some reason, the macro dosnt seem to make a difference, so I will blow the picture up and post.

Thanks for the reply

Much better, thanks.
Viewing the shield mark with this orientation, can you describe what is in it?

Hi Tom

Is that my image? As that is exactly what is in the shield. It looks like the letter "E".
