Watch Fob/ Pendant

Postby Geraldo » Tue Feb 03, 2009 11:29 am

I guess this is from a watch chain. Presumably the engraving depicts the owners initials, but I can't decipher them. I think it is a Birmingham hallmark and a date of 1899. Am I correct? Also I don't understand the numbers at the top. Were they some form of registration by the maker "H.P." ?

Hi,

Yes, Birmingham 1899. Sorry I don't know the maker.

Check out the British Registry Code at:
http://www.925-1000.com/registry.html

As for the engraved initials the darker one would indicate the surname.

The initials appear to be S.N.A. with A. being the surname initial. Cyphers can be difficult to read.

Hi Jim,

Besides the bolder surname initial, is there a method to reading the order of the other initials?

Thanks guys, that is most helpful. Apart from being a "silver-surfer", at my age, silver rarely crosses my path, but I said I would help out a more aged friend in this matter. I felt confident that I would get some assistance on this Forum, so once again Thankyou.
