Pocket watch

Hi there,

I got a pocket watch passed to me from my Dad (which he claims started with my great-great grandfather) and am only getting around to getting it dated. I think I've figured out two of the hallmarks (the lion for sterling silver and the lion head for London) but the year is confusing and I'm struggling to find the maker.

Hello and welcome.

I read the British hallmarks as London, 1830.

Have a couple of possibles for the SB incuse maker's mark.
It is either Samuel Brookes or Stephen Bryan. They were both case makers.

Samuel Brookes entered his last mark at London on October 27, 1827.
Stephen Bryan entered his first London mark in 1815. Last entered on October 7 1833.

Hi,

The information in Grimwade's is similar.

At this date Brookes address is given as 5, Ashby Street, Clerkenwell and Bryan's address as 42 or 48, Rahere Street, St Lukes.

the date's shocked me because I was told it was my great-great grandad's but the date puts it before him. didn't expect it to be that old!

makes the heirloom all that more special eh?
