Help with Initials Pocket watch case

Postby tawvb » Tue Jul 08, 2008 9:05 am

I am sorry I can't get a very clear picture of the initials JJ on the top nodule thingy. It is Chester Assay, the 3 sheafs without 'garb'. On the ring chain nodule it has the letters JJ stamped, the only makers I can find JJ is Richard Attenborough Jay, 1899-1904, but the date mark looks like the U of 1858 but I could be wrong. I was wondering however if anyone knew what the BK stands for?

Welcome to the forum.

Sorry I can't help with "JJ" but can confirm your view of the case being assayed at Chester 1858-9.

"BK" is the maker's mark of Benjamin Kerby of London who first registered at Chester in 1842.

Thank you very much for the information. I have been looking everywhere on the net for maker's mark BK.
