Help with Edinburgh date and makers mark

Hi there
I have tried to figure out what the date mark is on here with no luck. Also cannot find the makers mark in any lists. Any help appreciated. It is on a penannular brooch.

Hi,
Welcome to the Forum.
It appears to be Edinburgh 1972, if you could provide a slighty better close up it may help a lot.

I couldn't quite make out the maker's mark, either - any chance of a close-up? The work seems to be based on earlier pieces from Iona, for example those by Alexander Ritchie (there's a pretty extensive informational website, just google his name).
