Any ideas as to what this pattern/emblem is relatingto-appears military -The original watch had what looked like Arabic numbers on the dial -I have tried for years to research this but to no effect.

Any help would be appreciated.

I cannot say that this is definitive. To me it suggests Turkey, specifically the Ottoman Empire, and if you want to go to this site you will see some WW1 medals that have very similar motifs:

Many thanks for your assistance - it was a gem of a lead as I have now established that this is the Tughra (Coat of arms) of the Sultan of the Otterman Empire. See below link to Wikipedia. Just want to check that my dating of 1854 is correct as this would have been during the second year of the Crimean war. There is also the wording E160/46 carefully hand scratched on. Any ideas?

That is a repairman's mark. Could we see a picture of the watch face?

The watch itself was badly damaged whilst in my case 14 years ago. I have to confess that a few months back I threw it away but I didremember the Arabic letters. The only other information I have relating is that it has a chain and fob. I am not entirely convinced that they were originally together. I will try and up load photos tomorrow when I have nature light but the markings are miniscule and I am not entirely sure that I can capture them.

Anyway on the fob is
J.S and then a five pointed star.

there is also the lion and the "g" which is very similar to one for 1822 if this is a London maker.

I have looked at all the English Makers and cannot see any one with the star after the J.S.

Please note my error above as watch is 1845 and not 1854 (if I am correct)

I have managed to photo the watch chain. Hopefully by clicking on image you can zoom as detail is extremely small. Would be grateful if date could be confirmed and maker as you can see it is JS*

I can see makers with J*S but not as above

Any ideas. Also want to confirm that my dating of Watch itself is correct and that these items chain and watch did not start together(see posting above)
