modern 60's? pin

Post by zoe kimmey »

I think this is modernist American-- hope that I am in the right catagory. I need help identifying the maker on this pin. It says SS 18k, has the copyrighted symbol and then ????? sometimes it looks like a conjoined JA and other times it looks like a sideways number 5. HELP!!! Thanks in advance everyone.

Hi,
Sorry, don't know the mark, but I do read it as JA and I'm fairly sure JJ only made plated base metal jewelry. Your piece looks to be fairly recent, a 1990's production piece would be my guess. Hopefully, someone will know the mark.

As an added note to Tom's mention of "JJ" which is normally assigned to Jonette in costume pieces, I have come across a mention of "Jody Jewelree Company" associated with Lowell Sigmund of Santa Monica CA (1965-83?). There is no mention of the metals used, but Sigmund made brass novelty items sold at retailer shops. [Could not find a known mark, but one item of costume type wear was listed online having the name Jody scripted across the back bar. No precious metals there.]

John Atencio is known for mixed metals jewelry, e.g. sterling silver and gold. It could be SS for gilded sterling silver and 18K for two small gold hemispheres attached to the pin.
