Okay I have posted this here a couple of times and to no avail. this time is different though I actually have a couple of pics available. Now here i he story. I found this nice ssterling silver cross pendant in a shed that hadnt been opened in awhile. I thought it was junk but decided to take it home and clean it up. Well when I did it was veryh nice and I saw it had sterling stamped on the back with what I take to be a makers mark. It looks to be an S with a diagonal slah unning for the upper right corner to the lower left corner. can anyone help? I found a somewhat similar mark on the illusion site but it wasnt exactly the same. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I believe that the mark on your jewelry is that of C. Sidney Smith & Co. of Providence, RI. They were founded in 1869. Rather than an "S" with a line through it, the mark was like a dollar sign. Besides 10 and 14K gold jewelry, they also manufactured sterling silver jewelry. The last listing for this company was 1922, so if I am correct, your cross is quite old.
