Gold and Silver Ring - Curious About Origin and Mark

Postby marymadcap » Wed Feb 19, 2014 11:14 pm

My partner and I bought a few (admin edit) rings at an antique mall this week, and we are curious about any information that may be available. This one is gold silver and has lettering and a logo on the inside. The lettering is 18KT GE followed by a logo that looks like a fox's head or a fish, but it's very hard to tell. Any info or ideas will be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hi, welcome to the forum.
Your image of the marks is out of focus please send us a better one and use a good digital camera with a macro mode function (tulip) and daylight only (no flashlight). Good luck!

However a ring that has 18 KT GE inscribed on it is a ring that is not made of gold. GE in jewelry indicates that a piece of jewelry has Gold Electroplate added to its surface. The 18 KT indicates that the gold electroplate is 18 carat gold plate. By U.S Federal standards, in order to be called gold electroplate (GE or G.E.), the gold must be at least 7 mils (millionths of an inch) of an inch thick and of a fineness of 10 KT or higher like 14 KT or 18 KT.

Oel.
