English pseudo ? marks on American Salt Spoons

Postby StewartMcI » Mon Feb 12, 2007 8:24 pm

I know British hallmarks, but I am fairly sure these pseudo marks on three salt spoons are American...

Can any forum member confirm this, and identify the maker and period ???

Many thanks, Stewart

Hi Stewart,
"Chinese Export Silver 1785 to 1885" (pub. Museum of the China Trade, 1975) attributes the mark to Wongshing, located at 15 Old China Street, Canton, active c.1830-1855. A number of his holloware pieces as well as a Fiddle, Shell & Thread mustard ladle are illustrated in the book.
Regards, Tom
