CHINESE or JAPANESE? Help me identify these symbols, please!!

Post by pinagus »

I bought this dragon ring online (poshmark), and was told that it was antique and that the symbols meant sterling silver in asian, I didn't bother to ask from what country it was from (facepalm). I know, I know, but the price was too good to pass, and it's beautiful, don't you think? I was memorized by it, just wish I knew what the hallmark meant? I have done tons of research on the web, but nothing!

Hi Gus,

If I am not mistaken, in simplified Chinese it means pure silver.

Thank you Peter, I've been looking, it seems like forever to me, to find out what these markings mean. Take care!

Here's my dragon ring, I named him Falcor, from the movie Neverending story!

Take good care all!

Hi,
Referring to the (right side up) photo posted by Oel, the character on the right ( 银 ) means "silver", but the character on the left ( 纹 ) is not the word for pure. I've never seen that on a silver piece. Google translate says it means "pattern"

I apologize to have just read your post Ag999, I was never notified, but Peter translated it as meaning "pure silver" so, therefore, it was case closed for me, but now your info on this has me puzzled, the quest continues. Thank you. Gracias!!
