Not sure if this is Chinese. Would appreciate any help. The mark underneath what does it mean?

It's Japanese. The mark on the underside is the Japanese equivalent of the European family crest.

Thanks Trev! How old might this object be? 1920s? Would be happy to hear your opinion.

I have a book (somewhere!) that lists over 4,000 Japanese crests, I'll try and dig it out and see if there is a match.

Hi Sebastian,

I finally tracked down the book that I mentioned, but unfortunately I could not find a match in it.

Hopefully another member may have better resources.
