Help identifying Shanghai silver

Postby FionaS » Mon Mar 16, 2015 6:46 pm

Hello - I bought this pair of objects in Shanghai in the early 90s, but I believe they are Chinese export silver. The mark is ZW (Zee Wo?) or MZ, depending on the orientation. The Chinese characters read approximately "auspicious" - name of business or retail store? I'm not sure what they are - they don't function well as candlesticks, or as vases as they are pierced. I'd be grateful for any thoughts. Thank you.

Welcome to the Forum.

The maker is Zee Wo, as you say.

Looks like a trumpet vase that originally had a glass liner or insert.

I have written a little more about Zee Wo here: http://aperturegreen.blogspot.com/2015/ ... inese.html, if anyone would like to read the China story behind the vases.
Thank again!
