Antique Asian miniature silver incense burner.

Postby niceguy1 » Tue Jul 30, 2013 9:17 pm

HI ALL NICE PEOPLE

I have this antique Asian miniature silver incense burner, it stands on 3 legs & the top comes off.

The only marking it has is the word sterling on one of the feet. 2 1/2 inches tall x 2 inches wide.

Would anybody have any info when & where this was made?

THANKS

Confused by "incense burner" - it's a salt/pepper shaker in the form of a Japanese garden lantern...

Yes, Cheryl is quite right.

I hate to disappoint such a truly nice guy, but indeed the item in question is in the shape of a tōrō (灯 , or in tōyō kanji 灯篭, alternately 灯楼), not a koro (香炉); it was intended to hold salt or pepper, not incense; and it is not yet an antique.

I figured the holes were for the smoke to get out, but i guess you are right & its for salt and pepper.

Thanks both for your insight.

Not at all.

Thank you for the nice shout out and link to the Forum in your advert on a certain auction site.

Good luck with it.

Japanese made, it should come with a set of 6 (or more)
