Please help identify teapot

Postby BerberNeri » Sun Nov 20, 2011 12:05 pm

Hello world!
Could you help me to identify this silver teapot with heater. I bought it in Copenhagen, but the seller told me that the teapot was not local. Here are the photos I've made. If you need more - I'll make more with pleasure!!! Thank You in advance!!!

I tried to find similar mark using the link you have given me... But no match. And could it be something european in asian style? I've heard about japonism in Europe in 19 century... Anglo-japanese style... http://naturalisticspoon.com/Anglo_Japanese_Style.html

Hi,

Could you try to spell the name to us on the 2nd image shown, to me it looks like HUNSCHON…?
The other little mark looks like an Asian Character.
Are there any other marks beside the two showed on your photo?

I do not believe it is Europian ; Neo rocaille Style - pre art nouveau. Introduction of Japanese wave motive: crested motives looking like the fringe of falling water, or the crest of sea wave. These crested patterns find their origin in the influence of Japonisme. Also it seems to lack any valid European hallmarks.
Let us wait and see for a reaction of an forum member with knowledge of Asian names and Characters.

Regards,

Oel

I read the mark as Hung Chong & Co (of Canton and Shanghai). I'm no expert on Chinese silver but it would make sense for this to be an early 20th century product of that well known firm.
