HELP!!! (again)

Postby larrywseale » Sat May 14, 2011 1:22 am

I was at an estate sale and picked up this little (approx 2 3/4" diameter) dish. I thought the markings were pretty strange and figured it was "german silver" or some other none silver alloy. I haven't acid tested it BUT I hydrostatically weighted it & it has a specific gravity high enough to be fine silver, around 10.5 or so. It's also very soft. I don't understand the 1000 instead 0f 999 nor have any idea where/when it was made nor what it's supposed to be used for.

Any help greatly appreciated. If I'm in the wrong part of the world, let me know & I'll move the post. Thanks -larry-

Hi Larry,

You do, on occassion, find Japanese wares made from 1000 pure silver, that along with the engraving would point to that country of origin.
