Help identify retro table lighter mark

I have spent hours online searching for the meaning of the small mark near the base of this lighter. So far, I have only determined it was made in Japan, 1950's or 60's. Another forum suggested the mark is a crown or a bear paw or a brass knuckle. Any clues??
