Can you help determine what my Silver Shaker is?

Postby jpokla » Tue Sep 16, 2008 9:52 am

Hello,

We are hoping to identify the maker of this unusual piece to hopefully find a mate. This is a silver shaker of some kind.

Image

It stands about 3 inches tall, it has 3 holes on the back across the shoulders. On the bottom there is a small door that slides to one side to put something inside.

Image

The bottom is marked sterling 950 and a symbol which looks to me to be a Y with either a circle of M or w around it. Any suggestions as to the Maker? Thanks in advance for any help!

Sincerely,

Jayne

Hi Jayne,

Welcome to the Forum.

I have moved your post to the Far East section, as most often when we see 950 combined with the term Sterling the item tends to be made in Japan.

Regards Trev.

Hello again, I have made a closer inspection of this piece and can pretty definitely say this is a figure of an Oriental man. Additionally, he appears to be holding an axe in his right arm and a long pipe in his left hand. With the hat and long coat, I first thought this was a Pilgrim, but now can see this is Oriental. Hopefully, this added detail will give help someone to identify the marking on this piece. Thanks!
